Student Council

OPIS Student Council is a student Action and Agency initiative at OurPlanet International School Muscat. Comprised of students in Grade 2 and above, the Student Council presents opportunities for student leadership development, and it is geared towards involvement in school event planning, supporting sustainability initiatives, and the development of MYP Service as Action learning outcomes.

At the beginning of each school year, one boy and one girl from each grade level are elected by their peers as grade-level representatives. Three Student Council officers — President, Vice-President, and Secretary/Treasurer — are then elected from among Student Council grade level representatives in Grade 6 and above. Two staff supervisors support the Student Council. All Student Council representatives meet once every two weeks.

Student Council President:

  • Prepare agendas for Student Council meetings.
  • Preside over Student Council meetings.
  • Coordinate the work of Vice-President and Secretary/Treasurer.
  • Coordinate all student council activities.
  • Informing school leadership of Student Council projects/proposals.
  • Represent the Student Council at events and meetings with school leadership.

 

Student Council Vice-President:

  • Gather ideas/initiatives from Student Council representatives.
  • Assist the President with setting meeting agendas.
  • Coordinate Student Council fundraising projects.
  • Preside over Student Council meetings in the absence of the President.

Student Council Secretary/Treasurer:

  • Record minutes of meetings and make them available to Student Council representatives.
  • Maintain financial records and prepare reports for Student Council meetings as necessary.
  • Prepare the Student Council budget with the President and Vice-President.
  • Assist the Vice-President with fundraising projects.
